What should I use in my internet marketing? Pay-per-click or Organic Traffic.
Many people when they have finished launching their website are not fully aware that their page needs promotion to be visited. The correct application of internet marketing techniques is vital to the survival any website. It is even worse when the website is an ecommerce or an affiliate site promoting third party products. We must remember that when you launch a website on the internet is like if you opened a store in the middle of the desert. It simply stands far from the traffic area, and most likely, if people do not do anything about it, soon they will get discouraged and eventually abandon their ebusiness project. A total failure.

Many will wonder: How do I to generate traffic to my site?
There are basically two ways:

• Pay per click (PPC) and,
• Organic traffic.

PPC seems easy to implement, but it is not. If not used properly it can cost a lot of money with zero results. It is recommended that before using it, become familiar with this tool, especially those people just starting out as entrepreneurs on the Internet, as affiliate marketers or as owners of ecommerce sites. A PPC campaign can be very effective at the time of launching a website. If you are a beginner in ecommerce marketing, PPC advertising will help you get some visibility on the web, you'll learn about the market conditions you’re working on, know the visitors and their preferences in real time, and such information can also be used in a new ebusiness model for a possible launch of another website.

If you’re just starting out on PPC, in a period of 4-5 weeks you can get sufficient information to evaluate your advertising, your market and especially your internet marketing strategy. Note that conversion rates are between 0.05 to the 1.50% for selling products online and at first they might be smaller or null. That’s why the importance of knowing what keywords to use. There are several companies offering PPC advertising. However we recommend using the three major companies: Google AdWords, Yahoo Search Marketing and Microsoft adCenter. A very good alternative option is to try Facebook since in Google AdWords, for example, clicks have risen outrageously high in some markets. The PPC costs on Facebook are like those Google AdWords had 5 years or so ago.

Organic traffic simply means to get placed on top of the search engines listings. Many people are afraid, or spend a lot of time and work, in developing organic traffic to their websites. Truly, to achieve this requires training, work, dedication and patience.

What do I need to generate organic traffic?
There are three key elements in getting organic traffic: content, links and activity.
Content refers to the quality of the text describing your page and its products. It is important to update it on a regular basis, and avoid duplicate content. Links are other web sites backlinking to your site. These links should be of quality and the sites that generate it must be market related to your site. Finally, the activity level is an element that Google recently added to evaluate the quality of web sites and is called Google Caffeine. The activity of your site refers on how often you update your site, how many visits you have, how long people remain on your site, and how many pages are visited. Certainly, the activity element will dramatically change how ecommerce and internet marketing is done.

Compared to the PPC model of internet marketing, organic traffic offers greater advantages in the medium and long term to the owners of ecommerce and affiliate sites. Why? Note that during a search, the search results of the first page listing, only 5% of the clicks that are made will be paid advertising. The rest, 95%, are free clicks. But this will discussed in more detail in our next comment.

How would Caffeine affect the way we do ebusiness on the web?

According to Carrie Grimes, Google’s Software Engineer, in Google’s Blog points out that Caffeine provides fifty percent fresher results for web searches then their last index. Grimes notes that content on the web is blossoming, not just in size and numbers, but with the advent of video, images, news and real time updates, websites are richer and more complex; and to keep up with the evolution of the web and to meet with rising user expectations, Caffeine was built.

People search the most recent and relevant information for products and services on ebusiness and ecommerce websites, while the people responsible for publishing this information want it to be found immediately after is published.

Grimes briefly illustrates, describes and compares the old index with Caffeine. The old index had several layers, some of which were updated at a faster rate than others, while the main index was updated every two weeks. In the new index, Caffeine, the web is analyzed in small portions and updated on a continuous basis, globally. What Google doesn’t say in Grimes post is how much it takes to update the sum of all the small portions it claims the web was divided.

The sign is clear: Ebusiness and ecommerce site owners will need to write web content more intellingently, updating it not just in quantity but also in quality.

Finally, Grimes says Caffeine will continue to improve in the coming months, so we must be aware of updates and its implications in the performance of our ebusiness and ecommerce websites.
